Okay, I forget to mention that I saw the movie King Kong on the same day (Thursday). Kumari Cinema had organized a press show and I was invited. The overall experience of the movie was good but the pressure coming out from newsroom kept my phone busy at the end of the show. I was tempted to see the cinema as I had been following the King Kong development in the US media and Internet. Everything’s big, one
Newsweek story had said. After watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it wasn’t unusual to for audiences to go to theater with more expectations from director Peter Jackson. But King Kong is not L Of The Rings.
If I were to compare King Kong with War Of The Worlds, I think my vote would go to Steven Spielberg. Peter Jackson comes second. The intensity of largeness is there in King Kong but War of the World is ahead. The big big big Gorilla is attractive, its “acting” (read that as the skills of Andy Serkis) is superb. In this ear of everything-is-digital, you expect something magnificent from Hollywood. I wasn’t disappointed, though, by King Kong. That is why I think I enjoyed the film.
